Hong Kong : Climate & Weather

» The finest time to travel to Hong Kong is between October and November, the autumn months when the temperatures are milder. January and February are regularly rainy and cold months while June to September temperatures average 86°F with 95% humidity. Some rain and humidity can be predictable throughout the year.

Hong Kong's climate is sub-tropical, tending towards temperate for nearly half the year. During November and December there are pleasant breezes, ample sunshine and calm temperatures. Numerous people observe these as the top months of the year. January and February are cloudier, with infrequent cold fronts followed by arid northerly winds. It is not rare for temperatures to drop below 10 C in urban areas.

The lowest temperature recorded is 0 C, sub-zero temperatures and ice occur at times on high ground.
The mean annual rainfall ranges from around 1300 millimetres at Waglan Island to more than 3000 millimeters in the vicinity of Tai Mo Shan. About 80 percent of the rain falls between May and September. The wettest month is August, when rain occurs about four days out of seven and the average monthly rainfall at the Observatory is 391.4 millimetres.


» Huge thunderstorms become more frequent as June approaches. June tends to be the wettest month, with the beginning of the summer monsoon. On into July and temperatures usually hover between 26'C and 34'C- through to the middle of September. Though there are occasional cool breezes off the sea, the heat is generally oppressive.

Hong Kong is oftenly hit by typhoons, can truly chaos with your travel plans. Typhoons differ in size from tropical storms to harsh super typhoons. If the typhoon passes by Hong Kong at a distance, it will bring a little rain and wind that might only last for half a day.
