climate of European continent

» Most of Europe is like north of Chicago , and none of it is as far south as Atlanta or Los Angeles . However, this won't tell you much about the weather. The warm Gulf Stream, starting out south of Florida , passes all the way up the west coast of Europe. The Gulf Stream  moderates
temperatures around Europe.

»
Norwegian harbors hundreds of miles north of the Arctic Circle rarely freeze. But cold winds sweep down from the Arctic and clash with this the vapor above this warm water creating an almost constant drizzle over much of northern and central Europe . The result is generally cooler, wetter, and more changeable weather than in America during the summer, but the winters are not nearly as harsh. For example, London , about 800 miles further north than Chicago , has average January temperatures about 15 degrees warmer and it seldom freezes. Chicago can be subfreezing for weeks on end, and intermittently for six months. As you go east and get deeper into Europe , you get away from the influences of the ocean and the weather becomes more extreme in summer and winter. Going south, the Alps and the Pyrenees mountain ranges block the north winds giving the Mediterranean areas hot summers and mild winters.

» Geographical and climatic conditions vary greatly within Europe , which partly accounts for the continent's national and linguistic diversity. Europe comprises 45 independent countries, and almost 30 major languages are spoken in its area. Climatic conditions range from the marine west coast to the dry continental climate of inland Russia . In Northern Europe , the average temperature remains below zero Centigrade for several months, whereas the Mediterranean region can experience heat temperatures at the same time. The rich nature, interesting history, solid social conditions and good traffic connections contribute to the fact that almost 60% of international tourist trips are headed to Europe .
